This useful little application's main purpose is to function as a basic
Internet proxy server. If you've ever needed to connect one port to
another, or wanted to browse the web without installing bloated proxy
programs first, then this is the package for you!
The concept behind it is simple. If you have several
PCs on a network (LAN) which is connected to the Internet, in most cases
that connection would be made through one PC, which acts as a go-between.
All the PCs then need to communicate with the rest of the Internet via
this one PC.
Without getting too technical, because of the way
the networks have to be set up, the Internet and the LAN are effectively
invisible to each other. In order for the "hidden" PCs to
be able to "see" the Internet, we need some sort of go-between,
or "proxy server" to handle the requests or connections. That's
what GDataPipe does.
This application is designed to be simple and straightforward.
It provides basic port mapping facilities. What can you do with
it?
- Map multiple IP addresses and ports to a single destination IP address
and port
- Browse the web (normal browsing as well as using secure protocols,
for example with online banking)
- Connect to chat rooms and use IRC
- Check your e-mail directly, without using a mail server elsewhere
on the LAN
- Send your e-mail directly, without using a mail server elsewhere
on the LAN
- Read and respond to newsgroups
- Map any port on one PC to any other port on any other remote PC
(for example telnet, VoIP). This includes being on the receiving end
of a P2P connection
- Route TCP/IP data and connections from one network to another via
the proxy/gateway PC
- Protect your anonymity by stringing several of these together across
several networks
- It can be run silently, or in the system tray. By silent we mean
in the background with no icons visible (although it can still be
viewed in the task list, to shut it down).
- Future versions will be able to run completely 'stealthed', and
not be visible at all. Imagine the possibilities :)
Installation
- Installation is extremely simple. Simply unzip the program into
a convenient directory, run the setup.exe, and you're away!
- Administration is simple and intuitive, all information is stored
in an .ini file, so no mucking about in the registry.
- Uninstallation is done the usual way, through Control Panel.
GDataPipe also includes a Windows
NT/2000 Service version.
The most recent update includes all capabilities of
the non-service version, as well as an HTTP/HTTPS (SSL) web and secure
browsing proxy. Use this for regular web browsing as well as secure
access to online resources such as banking.
This application is shareware, and will run for 30
days, whereupon you will be required to register to be able to continue
running it. It is also limited in functionality, allowing only the first
3 port mapping profiles to be active. Registration
will give you
