In this section we'll be presenting tools that we think will help you to improve productivity and efficiency in your organisation.  We intend to develop this area fairly aggressively in the next few months.  In the pipeline are:

To begin with, a very small application for our South African  clients:

A simple PAYE Calculator (zipped) Now updated for 2004-2005

Self Extracting Zip File (exe)

Arising from other work we've discovered that there is a need for a simple PAYE calculator to answer the question "How much Tax should I pay?"

Revisions to the Income tax Act now mean that all Closed Corporations and Limited Companies need to be registered with South African Revenue Services (SARS) for PAYE and SDL (Skills Development Levies).  Any payments to a director or member now require PAYE and SDL to be deducted.  How much tax?  According to the legislation 35%, unless you get a Directive (IRP3) from SARS.  But in any case, as a small employer, or as an individual you often need to calculate PAYE on earnings.  This small application does just that.

** This program applies specifically to South African Income Tax **
** However, if you have a progressive, banded system it may work for you too**

SARSTaxCalc is a freeware program designed solely to answer the question "How much income tax must I pay?"

Income tax in South Africa is administered and collected by the South African Revenue Services (SARS).

Income tax levels are set annually by the Government and formally published as a booklet (more a doorstop) designated IRP10.  Usually a simplified set of rules will be published in the local newspapers.

The rules are reasonably simple, but doing the job manually does take time.  You can set the information up as a spreadsheet, assuming you have the skills and the time.  SARS also supply a (free!) CD-ROM with a program to calculate your income tax return (IT12) - but for our purposes this is overkill.

To calculate Income tax we require:

1.    Your age (Under or over 65),

2.    What you earned and

3.    If you want to take Pension Contributions into consideration.

That's all there is to it.

As this is freeware we've limited the tax calculation to this tax year only(2003/2004). However, next year you can update the calculation by changing the simple text file containing the rules.  We tell you how to do this in the Help file of the application.

The application has been updated to include Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) deductions. In addition we've added a section to show you other contributions made on your behalf by the employer.

To download the program click here.  To download a self extracting zip version, click here. To install it just double click it.  It will ask you to where you want to unzip the files.  Then change to that subdirectory and run the file.  If you need to, just back up the existing SARSTax.ini file and replace it with the new one, updated for 2004-2005. To Uninstall it, just delete all the files.  There are no registry entries.  If you find this program useful please let us know.  A small donation (say R25) would be appreciated to defray development costs, and hey, it may just save you some money!
